Taking to the turntables was a natural progression for Bristol born DJ and producer Owain K (Owain Kimber) after discovering bootleg mix-tapes and the UK Hardcore scene in ‘91.
Coming from a musical family and encouraged to play the violin and saxophone, Owain draws on a variety of musical influences from Soul and Jazz to Hip Hop and Punk which he likes to express in both his production and his tightly blended DJ sets: crossing the boundaries of deep house, disco, detroit techno, acid and beyond.
Since 1997, Owain has been a regular fixture in Cardiff: having held residencies at infamous haunts such as The Emporium and Clwb Ifor Bach, co-promoting the now legendary Holodeck parties for the best part of 8 years. These days, he is responsible for bringing the sounds of Lovetempo to the city and can be found playing regularly at Milgi Lounge and Undertone.
Owain’s first ventures into production saw the light of day back in 2005, thanks to UK techno legends Mark Broom & Dave Hill (Pure Plastic). Since then, he has teamed up with renowned producer Jamie Anderson (Artform/Rekids/Made To Play), releasing the mighty Without Sound on Steve Bug’s Dessous Recordings in the spring of 2011; the lovely deep tones of Prescription also featuring on the label’s Best Kept Secrets 3 compilation.
Ending the year on a high, Owain’s moody 303 tribute Sans Fin featured on Poker Flat Records’ Forward To The Past 2: The Acid Flashback Album. With more collab and solo material lined up for release in 2012 on Dessous, 200 and Catapult, expect to hear much more from him …
